Background

Following the catastrophic damage of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, embarked on one of the largest and most comprehensive public works projects in American history. The Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) constructed over $14 billion of flood protection improvements. These improvements included levee enlargements, pump stations, and closure complexes.

One of the most critical measures of the HSDRRS was the protection of refurbished earthen levees against the erosion-causing hydraulic forces of storm surge overtopping.

Problem

Prevent earthen levee damage caused by storm surge overtopping. In addition, the recommended system required vigorous testing to ensure it met USACE design standards.

How is Ferguson Waterworks helping to protect New Orleans with ARMORMAX® 75?

In short, we aided the New Orleans team in the planning, distribution, and installation of high-performance turf reinforcement mats, ARMORMAX® 75, across 70 miles of earthen levee.

Case studies - results from installing permeable paving & machine technology to get an abandoned site and parking lot up to stormwater code

In order to revitalize and meet stormwater codes, the abandoned parking area at the Shoppes at Fashion Square in Orlando, FL, required updates. With a permeable paving system and machine technology, we helped the client achieve their goals, save $1 million, and complete the project in just 10 days.

ShearForce 10 installed beneath and around operational solar panels in order to prevent erosion.

With solar panels in place and operational, an immediate and effective erosion control solution was imperative. Especially considering the panels were positioned next to channels, drip lines, and spillways.
