Steiner Ranch Emergency Evacuation Route
How did Ferguson Waterworks help support a steep and curvy evacuation route to ensure road stabilization, reliability, and integrity?
Challenge
Travis County wanted a pervious pavement option for an emergency evacuation route out of a large neighborhood, Steiner Ranch, in West Austin. Due to the route’s steep slopes and curves, the county was concerned about installing and maintaining the roadway.
Our Solution
After reviewing the project, Ferguson Waterworks product specialists recommended installing a GeoWeb-supported gravel roadway. With expert solutions and fast turnarounds, we facilitated the quick distribution of our Cellular Confinement system. As a result, the county reinforced the gravel pavement structure for long-term support and durability.
Product Advantages
Ferguson’s Cellular Confinement system added structural support to gravel pavement structures. Consequently, fire trucks and other heavier loads do not rut the road. Furthermore, it allows water to infiltrate the pavement and therefore it meets their pervious pavement requirement. The thickness of the GeoWeb holds the aggregate into place. As a result, it reduces the amount of maintenance needed for a gravel road. Not to mention, this subsurface stabilization for roads does not require heavy equipment for installation. Simply spread the Cellular confinement panels by hand and stake them into the ground.
