Replacing concrete stormwater containment system with R-Tank Modules
After discovering their parking lot's concrete stormwater system was failing, this client turns to Ferguson Waterworks for cost-efficient stormwater solutions
Initial Concern
Unfortunately, an office complex’s parking lot became hazardous due to a failing underground stormwater system. In fact, the top slab of the existing concrete stormwater storage system was severely cracked. It is well known that failing concrete systems create conditions for sinkholes to develop, causing the parking lot to be dangerous to its users.
Solutions
When the client realized the system was failing, they contacted us to assist in a new design. Because this was an unexpected expense for the office complex, it was vital to replace or fix the underground concrete stormwater storage system with cost-efficient stormwater solutions.
Understanding the complicated situation, Ferguson Waterworks devised a plan that incorporated premium, high-flow R-Tank Stormwater Modules. Due to its compact and modular design, the R-Tank was retrofitted to the size of the existing stormwater chamber. As a result, we were able to keep the concrete perimeter intact. This minimized the amount of stone required around the perimeter of the system. Furthermore, it simplified the placement and compaction of the side stone. It also saved the client time and money by reducing labor and material costs.
R-Tank Stormwater Modules – Installation
R-Tank HD Pent 7-ft modules were selected to replace the existing system due to the high void space and cover parameters. To allow for the passage of water from the tanks to the perimeter stone, the system was wrapped in an SR-18 microgrid. Additionally, TrashGuards were placed in the upstream drains feeding into the system. This helped prevent sediment, trash, and debris from entering the stormwater chamber.
Product Advantages
R-Tank Stormwater Modules were used because they were able to:
- Fit the existing footprint
- Provide cost-efficiency
- Minimize site disturbance
- Replicate the existing system’s volume
Results
This urgent replacement was an unexpected cost for the client but was necessary to avoid compromising the safety of those parking in this lot. The replacement stormwater storage system not only fit the old system’s footprint but also provided a budget-conscious solution to the client’s initial concern. The parking lot is safe and secure once again.
