Using Geogrid Geotextiles To Reduce Stone Base & Soil Cement Costs
Ferguson Waterworks saves a customer roughly $648k using innovative and proven geotextile solutions.
Challenge
A site development contractor tasked with clearing, grading, road/laydown yards, and vegetative establishment on a solar farm anticipated issues with soft soils. A geotechnical report determined it necessary to add a thick aggregate layer and soil cement in order to stabilize the roadway. After calculating the stone and soil cement costs, the contractor contacted Ferguson Waterworks for alternative solutions.
Solution
Ferguson Waterworks evaluated the information and project site. After careful consideration and review, our experts developed a time and cost-saving alternative involving geogrid geotextiles. As a result, the high-strength geotextile reduced the stone base from 17″ down to 6″. In addition, the originally proposed 12″ soil cement was eliminated for the heavy-duty access roads. In total, this innovative and proven solution for soil stabilization saved our customer hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Geogrid geotextiles provide superior stabilization and reduce the amount of required aggregate – saving customers both time and money.
- Savings on access roads – roughly $285k
- Savings on laydown yard – roughly $363k
